Victim identified in fatal pedestrian accident near downtown Colorado Springs
The deceased pedestrian involved in a collision Sunday in the 2500 block of East Platte Avenue has been identified as 62-year-old Albert McCoy of Colorado Springs, according to a release from CSPD.
Officials say this continues to be an ongoing investigation.
A man was hit and killed by a car early Sunday afternoon east of downtown Colorado Springs near Platte and Boulder Street, police confirmed.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. CSPD received a report of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian and a single vehicle in the 2500 block of East Platte Ave. Officers found an adult male pedestrian dead on the scene. The Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
The man was elderly, according to a witness. Police have not yet released the victim’s age.
According to officials, the preliminary investigation indicates that a Nissan Leaf traveling westbound in the center lane of Platte Ave. when it struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the street northbound across a raised median. It is not believed that excessive speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
Officials say this is the 28th traffic fatality this year. At the same time in 2018 there were 33 traffic fatalities.
No charges have been filed at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
