Fatal crash causes delays, lane closures on I-25 south of Colorado Springs

Interstate 25 is once again open following another fatal overnight crash in the Pikes Peak region. State Patrol closed the interstate between the Santa Fe and Mesa Ridge Parkway exits Tuesday evening due to a crash involving both directions of travel.

State Patrol says it appears 24-year-old Aiden Detavernier of Colorado Springs lost control of his Ford Ranger during wet conditions and veered into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes. His truck hit a Kenworth then spun around and flipped.

Following the impact with the smaller truck, the Kenworth went into the center median and southbound lanes where it collided with a Ford F350.

State Patrol says Detavernier was pronounced dead at the scene. His juvenile passenger has minor injuries. The drivers of the Kenworth and the Ford were taken to the hospital to be checked out. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts.

The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. All lanes reopened before midnight.

Citizens help Pueblo police catch suspected DUI driver in pedestrian accident

Police in Pueblo are crediting citizens with helping them capture a suspected DUI driver in a serious pedestrian accident.

The crash happened Wednesday night and involved a pedestrian. Police are reporting the pedestrian has two broken legs. The crash happened at 19th and Norwood just south of Highway 50.

The intersection was still closed as of 9:45 p.m.

Police did not immediately identify the suspect.

Click it or Ticket campaign focuses on rural Colorado

CDOT’s latest Click it or Ticket it campaign is underway, with the focus on encouraging people in rural Colorado to use their seat belts.

Data released by CDOT showed five of the six worst counties for seat belt use were rural counties — Cheyenne, Delta, La Plata, Montezuma and Chaffee counties. In Cheyenne County, research shows only 65 percent of drivers and passengers wear seat belts.

“Unfortunately, there are people who continue to believe they do not need to fasten their seatbelt when getting in a vehicle, many of whom are in rural communities who think they don’t need to buckle up because there is less traffic or they are only traveling a short distance,” said Col. Matthew Packard, Colorado State Patrol’s Chief.

In reality, CDOT said more than 50 percent of accidents occur within a five-mile radius of a person’s home and 70 percent occur within a 10-mile radius.

CDOT also collected statistics on traffic deaths. Of the 416 traffic deaths across the state in 2018, more than half of them were not wearing seat belts.

“I used to think they were uncomfortable and I would wear them under my arm when I did but in October I got hit by a semi and I broke my facial bones because I flew across the car,” said McKenna Froncek, a driver featured in one of the campaign’s new videos. “I definitely do wear my seatbelt now.”

The campaign lasts through Sunday.

Part of the claims adjuster’s job is to investigate the validity of your car accident claim, which can mean looking into prior accidents, pre-existing conditions, and  reviewing the information made public on social media networks like Facebook and Instagram.

It is important to note that even though you clearly did not cause an accident, you should get help from a car accident attorney or lawyer and call AGG law firm today for a free consultation.

Settlement Factors for Damaged Vehicles

If your claim only involves damages to your car, your settlement compensation will generally be the cost of repairs or replacement of the damaged item.

For example, if you or a loved one is involved in a collision with another driver in Northern Colorado, and only the bumper is damaged, then the settlement compensation will be the reasonable cost to have the bumper repaired or replaced.

The exception to this general rule is when the replacement or repair cost exceeds the value of the car.

In this situation, the insurance company may decide that your vehicle is a “total loss” and pay you for the loss of the vehicle.

Settlement Factors for Injuries

If you have been injured in an auto collision caused by a distracted driver, drunk driver, truck driver, or teen driver the personal injury portion of your case is negotiated separately from your property damage.

For example, if you had a bone fracture, you would receive additional settlement compensation as compared to an accident where an injury did not occur.

The compensation you receive from the insurance company will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to the nature and extent of your injuries and your total medical bills.

Hiring an experienced personal injury attorney can make all the difference in the way your case is prepared and the value your case receives. Call the experienced attorneys at Alhasoon, Glidden & Glidden today for a free consultation to discuss your options.

Settlement for Pain and Suffering

Pain and suffering is an amount in addition to your medical bills to compensate you for your past and future discomfort associated with your injury.

Do not try to face the insurance companies alone. Contact Alhasoon, Glidden & Glidden today to discuss your options. At Alhasoon, Glidden & Glidden we fight to get you the maximum compensation you deserve.

1. PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION

Personal injury protection, or PIP, is available in New York, Michigan, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Utah.

Like medical payments coverage, PIP may help pay for your medical expenses after an accident. In addition, PIP may also help cover other expenses incurred because of your injuries — for example, childcare expenses or lost income.

Personal injury protection is required in some states and optional in other states where it’s available.

Collision coverage is typically optional. It may be required, however, by your vehicle’s leaseholder or lender.

If you or a loved one is involved in a collision, ensure you contact AGG Law Firm your car accident attorney or lawyer.

3. MEDICAL PAYMENTS COVERAGE:

If you, your passengers or family members who are driving the insured vehicle are injured in an accident, medical payments coverage may help pay for costs associated with the injuries.

Your insurance claim will cover the cost of hospital visits, surgery, X-rays and more. If you have been injured in an accident, contact AGG Law Firm today to find out more about how medpay can help your case.

4. Liability Coverage

Liability insurance covers bodily injuries and property damage incurred by other drivers and passengers.

If you are liable for causing a car accident, it does not pay for injuries or damages that you sustain as a result of the accident.

States that require car insurance will usually have a statutory minimum level of liability coverage. In Colorado, the state minimums are $15,000 for property damage and $25,000 per injured person and $50,000 per occurrence for injuries

Liability coverage has two components:

  • Bodily injury liability your insurance claim may cover the costs related to another person’s injuries if you cause an accident.
  • Property damage liability may help pay for damage you cause to another person’s property while driving.

5. UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE:

If you’re hit by a driver who doesn’t have insurance, uninsured motorist coverage may help pay for your medical bills or, in some states, repairs to your vehicle.

If you’re hit by an underinsured driver, that means they have car insurance, but their liability limits aren’t enough to cover your resulting medical bills. That’s where underinsured motorist coverage may help.

Ensure that your car is always insured with the proper coverage to protect yourself and your family. Chubb, USAA, MetLife, and Amica are some of the insurance companies that offer great coverage plans.
